Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program COVID-19 Relief Grants Provide Critical Support to People With Developmental Disabilities

Through its Community Ties Giving Program, Union Pacific Railroad has awarded COVID-19 Relief Grants to Glenkirk and Search, Inc., two nonprofit organizations addressing the critical needs people with developmental disabilities are facing during the pandemic.

“All of us have been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and people with developmental disabilities are no different. Many of the individuals served by Glenkirk and Search have underlying medical conditions which put them at higher risk of serious illness should they become infected. That is why we have done everything we can to keep everyone safe at this time.”

John Lipscomb, Keystone Foundation President

It hasn’t been easy. Since March, both Glenkirk and Search have shut down their adult day programs, quarantined more than 300 residents, and significantly adjusted their operations at 50 community-based homes that they operate across Chicago and the northern suburbs.

“What has become abundantly clear during these challenging times is that the good work of Glenkirk and Search, Inc. has never been more important, and critical support from donors like the Union Pacific is greatly appreciated.”

John Lipscomb, Keystone Foundation President

“Union Pacific is committed to addressing critical needs associated with the pandemic, especially for organizations serving those who are most vulnerable in the community, such as Glenkirk and Search.”

Erik Varela, Senior Director of Public Affairs, Union Pacific Railroad in Illinois.
