Behavioral Health Clinic

In 2018, the Illinois Department of Health and Family Services (HFS), which administers the State’s Medicaid program, launched the Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) model. Per HFS, BHCs are smaller entities focused on specific populations or diseases which meet community needs with flexible services. BHCs serve individuals with low to moderate intensity needs by assisting those individuals in remaining in the community rather than being placed in costly institutional settings.
